About Georgia

My name is Georgia Kalamidas. I grew up with my family on Long Island. Family is a very important aspect in my everyday life. I do everything with my family, they're my best friends and the only people I know will definately stick by me in the future. For those of you who haven't realized by my last name, I am Greek. I can relate certain aspects of my life to the outstanding movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. My favorite quote from the movie has to be when Toula's brother Nick says to her, "Don't let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you will become."

When difficult situations get thrown at me, I find no better escape than playing Lacrosse. I have been playing Lacrosse for 12 years now and I love every minute of it. I am one of the goalie's on the Farmingdale State Women's Lacrosse team. After working together as a unit, from the players on the field, to the players on the sideline supporting each other, we won the 2014 Skyline Conference Championship and are advancing to the NCAA tournament.

When I am not playing in the game, other than cheering on my team, I enjoy snapping some action shots of while they play.

As I attend Farmingdale State, I am a Psychology major. After attending Farmingdale and earning my Bachelor's degree, I plan on transferring to another college on the island and earning my Master's degree. With my degree, I would love to become a School Counselor. I enjoying helping others and talking to them about what issues are bothering them. When I was in high school, I remember watching this video:

I remember feeling speechless after watching it and realizing that Ali didn't have to say a SINGLE word and I understood how she was feeling. My take-home message to everyone is to just be careful with what you say to others and to THINK before you SPEAK, because you never know how much you may be upsetting them.
